There's no wrong time to come to Bellaire, but each season is a very different trip. Here's how to pick.
Bellaire by season
| Season | Months | Best for | Crowds |
|---|---|---|---|
| Summer | Late June to August | Torch Lake, the sandbar, boating, golf | Busiest |
| Fall | September to October | Fall color, hiking, quiet lakes | Busy on color weekends |
| Winter | Mid-December to March | Skiing at Schuss, snowshoeing, hot tubs | Busy on holidays |
| Spring | April to early June | Value, fishing, empty trails | Quietest |
Summer: lake season
July and August are what most people picture: warm days, the turquoise water of Torch Lake, afternoons at the sandbar, and paddling the Chain of Lakes. Torch Lake is very deep, so the water is coldest in June and warmest in late July and August.
Book early. Summer weekends, the Fourth of July and August are the first dates to fill.
Fall: color season
September is one of the best-kept secrets up north: warm days, cooler nights, no crowds, and water that's still swimmable early in the month. Fall color usually peaks in early to mid October. See fall colors near Bellaire.
Winter: ski season
Schuss Mountain's daily ski season usually runs from mid-December into March. For 2026–27, daily skiing is projected from December 17 to about March 22. Christmas week, MLK weekend and Presidents' Day weekend are the busiest. See the Schuss Mountain ski guide and winter things to do.
Spring: the quiet season
April and May are the quietest months. The lakes are cold and the trails can be muddy, but you'll have them almost to yourself. Spring is good for fishing, birding at Grass River, and the best rates of the year. By June, the woods are green and summer is starting.
Cheapest time to visit
The best values are usually in spring (April to early June) and late fall (November, before ski season). Midweek stays are cheaper than weekends in every season. September is the best balance of good weather and lower demand.
